Joshua Elmore, bassoonist, and Alec Manasse, clarinetist, performed at St. Ann & the Holy Trinity’s weekly Summer Music Concert Series on Thursday, July 16. The 5:30 pm concerts are held in the Peace Garden on Clinton Street, beside the church entrance at Montague and Clinton Streets in Brooklyn Heights. Musicians perform 30-minute sets in the newly landscaped garden for an audience of passersby invited to listen from the sidewalk while keeping safe social distance.
Bassoonist Joshua Elmore is earning his Master of Music degree at The Colburn School in Los Angeles, California, studying under Richard Beene. He is a graduate of The Juilliard School where he studied under the tutelage of Judith LeClair as a recipient of a Kovner Fellowship. Joshua has performed with numerous orchestras including The New York Philharmonic, Oregon Symphony, The Charleston Symphony, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Juilliard Orchestra, the New York String Orchestra and Carnegie Hall’s National Youth Orchestra of the USA, with which he toured China and Europe. During the summer of 2018, Joshua was chosen to be a fellow at the Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara, California, where he was a finalist in the concerto competition and the London Symphony Orchestra Keston Music Academy Exchange Fellowship. Joshua attended the National Orchestra Institute in 2017 and recorded a Grammy-nominated album with Naxos. During his high school years in Shaker Heights, Ohio, Joshua was principal bassoonist of the Cleveland Youth Wind Symphony and was a member of the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra.
Noted for his “rich, pure sound” by the San Francisco Classical Voice, clarinetist Alec Manasse recently completed his Bachelor’s degree at The Juilliard School. Alec has performed with many of New York City’s top orchestras, including the Orchestra of Saint Luke’s and the American Ballet Theater. He is an award-winning clarinetist and received first prize at the International Clarinet Association’s 2014 high school competition. An avid chamber musician, Alec also won first prize in the woodwind division of the 2016 M-Prize International Arts Competition, as well as third prize in the 2018 Fischoff International Chamber Music Competition. Alec regularly performs chamber music at the Cape Cod Chamber Music Festival and The Festival de Musique at St. Barts. A two-time fellow at the Colorado College Summer Music Festival, he has collaborated with members of The Ying Quartet and pianist Jon Nakamatsu.
