The History of Slavery at St. Ann & the Holy Trinity

May 23, 2021 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

The Rev. Craig Townsend and six students from Saint Ann’s School will present their research findings regarding the ways in which our original parishes, St. Ann’s Church and The Church of the Holy Trinity, were involved with the institution of slavery and its economic benefits. Join us on for a Zoom gathering on Sunday, May 23, 4:00-5:00 pm.

Many of St. Ann’s early leaders and parishioners were slaveholders; many of Holy Trinity’s leaders were profiting from doing business with Southern slaveholders; many of the streets of Brooklyn Heights are named for slaveholders. We hope many will participate in this opportunity to confront our parish’s challenging history and begin a conversation about what comes next.
