On June 20, 2024, St. Ann & the Holy Trinity Church and Pro-Cathedral hosted Stonewall 55: Legacy Without Limits, a commemoration and celebration of the 55th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising. We were immensely glad and proud to welcome conversation partners, performers, and prominent community members who collectively embody generations of investment in the movement for LGBTQ+ rights and liberation. St. Ann’s LGBTQ+ Action Group was the engine behind planning and organizing this significant gathering, and we are grateful for the commitment and time they devoted to making Stonewall 55 a great occasion.

The evening opened with a slideshow of archival photographs by Village Voice photographer Fred McDarrah. An expert panel reflected on the past, present, and future of the LGBTQ+ movement, featuring Ben Garcia and Suhaly Bautista-Carolina of the American LGBTQ+ Museum, Riot Mueller of the LGBTQ Religious Archives Network, and was moderated by Kay Turner. Awards were presented to the LGBTQIA+ Caucus of the New York City Council, with Councilmember Crystal Hudson accepting on their behalf, and Brooklyn Pride Chair Mickey Heller; Councilmember Lincoln Restler also attended and offered supportive remarks. The event concluded with performances from Brooklyn-based drag artist Dev Doee and iconic indie pop trio BETTY. Artistic Sign Language interpretation was provided throughout by ASL artist Brandon Kazen-Maddox.
