St. Ann’s celebrated Women’s History Month by honoring the Brooklyn Women’s Exchange, the volunteer-run, neighborhood operation that has supported local craftspeople, initially immigrant women and widows, since 1854. Martha Foley, local archivist and historian, provided a fascinating description of how creative women of Brooklyn worked together to support themselves and the community. President Ann Aurigemma invited all interested to volunteer at the store, which recently moved to Montague Street from Pierrepont Street, where it is enjoying new visibility and popularity. The event was livestreamed. The recording may be viewed here. Click on image for slideshow.
