Art as Survival: The Necessity of LGBTQ+ Artmaking in Every Age
The Intersection Series at St. Ann’s Church brings together intersecting perspectives on issues of justice in a new forum for dialogue across multiple disciplines.
Creative expression is the lifeblood of the LGBTQ+ community. Queer and trans artists have always faced down censorship and violence, as stewards of legacy and luminaries of queer futures. The stakes are higher than ever to assert the power of LGBTQ+ art and create a culture where queer and trans people not only survive but flourish.
You are invited to join the conversation featuring Justin Vivian Bond, internationally renowned performance artist and activist; Peter Alfred Elizalde, dancer and Director of Programs and Artist Advocacy at New Yorkers for Culture and Arts; and Tyrone Davis, Jr., Broadway actor, sex educator, and student of divinity and social work; moderated by Will Davis, Artistic Director of Rattlestick Theater.

St. Ann’s Warehouse returns to its original home—St. Ann & the Holy Trinity Church—in a tribute to Marianne and a celebration of Viv’s dream, decades in the making. “As an artist, I’ve created my own persona by ‘wandering through’ the spirits of those whom I adore and hopefully reflecting some of their stardust.”

Trans Is Beautiful Photographic Exhibition
Trans Is Beautiful celebrates the depth, diversity, and resilience of trans, nonbinary, and gender nonconforming lives through the photography of Laurence Philomene, Steven Baboun, and Zach Oren.
Together, their portraits explore identity, belonging, and cultural heritage while honoring trust, visibility, and the courage to live authentically. Vivid and intimate, the works document trans existence as a space of joy, care, and vulnerability, while also reflecting how identity is shaped by culture, history, and place.
On view through October 1, 2025, Trans Is Beautiful invites viewers to recognize that representation matters, and that beauty is found in authenticity, courage, community, and the freedom to be wholly oneself.
